Page 13 MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR I am excited to share an update on the parks and recreation improvements that have taken place across our city. With a total investment of $3.3 million, Bartow is making one of its most comprehensive upgrades in recent years to enhance safety and overall quality of life for our residents. These projects were designed with the community in mind. Whether you are visiting a park to play, gather, or simply enjoy the outdoors, these improvements will provide more comfortable, accessible, and enjoyable experiences. Restrooms To support our most visited parks, restroom facilities have been added to: • Downtown Bartow • Over the Branch Park • Richland Manor Park • MLK Gazebo Park • Mary Holland Park • Mosaic Soccer Fields These additions will enhance accessibility, support outdoor events, and provide cleaner, more modern amenities for families and visitors. Athletic Courts Three new outdoor Athletic Courts have been constructed to provide safe, accessible spaces for residents of all ages to stay active, build healthy habits, and connect with one another. Bartow Civic Center Construction of eight new tennis courts, complete with new lighting and fencing, creating a high-quality recreational and tournament-ready space. Richland Manor Park Four new pickleball courts, One new tennis court, and brand new playground equipment. These updates are designed to serve residents of all ages and meet the growing demand for pickleball courts. Summerlin Park A new outdoor basketball court to give young athletes and neighborhood families a safe, accessible place to play. Facility Enhancements Updated LED lighting at the Pittas Baseball Complex, improving visibility for evening play and reducing energy costs. New field goal posts and fencing at the Bartow Sports Complex Football Field to support youth sports and provide a safer, more professional environment. The kitchen at the Bartow Civic Center has been renovated, improving functionality for events, rentals, and community programs. New flooring has been installed in the Christine McCoy Room and a full kitchen renovation was done at the Carver Recreation Center, enhancing one of our community’s most utilized gathering spaces. New outdoor basketball goals at the Polk Street Community Center provide youth and families with a dedicated, safe place to play. In addition to the major projects listed above, several other recreational upgrades have taken place throughout the city, each contributing to our long-term vision of making Bartow a vibrant, active, and connected community. These projects collectively demonstrate the City of Bartow’s commitment to investing in our parks, supporting youth and adult recreation, and creating safe, modern, and welcoming public spaces. They will strengthen neighborhoods, promote healthy lifestyles, and enhance community pride for years to come. The courts, which long needed attention, have been completely refurbished Some longtime players were joined by current members of the Bartow High team to test out the new, improved courts.
